How to get the Lumina exotic hand cannon in Destiny 2

a weapon of hope

Destiny 2’s Season of Opulence is in full swing right now, which means that a new Exotic Quest is ready and awaiting completion. Due to a severe shortage of exotic hand cannons, Bungie figured it was best for them to drop another on the crucible.

This time it’s Lumina, the literal opposite of Thorn. Where Thorn previously reduced an opponent’s health, Lumina heals your teammates. With the Noble Rounds perk, players will be able to kill enemies and pick up special rounds which, when shot at the hip, will seek out a teammate, heal them, and then provide an additional bonus damage for a period of time.

Lumina is an interesting combination of support benefits and deadly precision wrapped in a hand cannon, so here’s how to get it.

Locate “A Fateful Gift”

It’s almost normal that you find Lumina in the exact same place as Thorn’s original remains. This means that you will have to go to the EDZ.

While in the EDZ, you’ll want to travel to the Trostland area and make your way through the salt mines. When you reach the elevator you will have to transmate upwards and continue towards the blue barrier at the top of the hill. With the barrier on your right, you’ll want to veer left from the edge of the cliff and continue forward through an alcove until you reach the camp (third photo below). At the back of the camp is a chest and in it the first steps to get Lumina.

Complete the quest step “ A Fateful Gift ‘

Upon opening the aforementioned chest, you will receive the quest step “A Fateful Gift” and an item called “System Positioning Device”. This device can be found in the tab of your pursuits and is an integral part of completing the quest.

To complete “A Fateful Gift”, you will need to locate a unique chest in the galaxy. The location of the chest changes every hour, every hour – just like the state of the quest step. To find out where this safe is located, you will need to consult the “System Positioning Device”. There will be purple text that will detail the rough area you will find the chest in. The following videos detail the locations of the stages of the Fateful Gift quest.

Complete “ Bearer of Evil Past ” by spawning orbs

The next step is as easy as it sounds. It shouldn’t take you more than 30-60 minutes with the right build, less if you’re a hunter wearing Orpheus mounts. The quickest method is to get a Super Rover, a Party of Friends, and equip Master Weapons of hope while completing Escalation Protocols or Blind Wells. Use any Warlock radiation wells to get bonus orbs. When you complete this step, you will be rewarded with Rose, a legendary hand cannon.

Increase the power of Rose with ‘Rose, Revealed’

The next stage of the quest is divided into three separate activities, rather than an exotic quest. Completing these three stages will allow you to progress through the overall Exotic Quest.

The first step, “Group Together”, requires you to complete a night strike with over 50,000 points. This should be easily done with the right modifiers and the right fire crew, you can even do it along with your weekly 100,000 Nightfall attempt.

The next step, “Face the Hordes”, takes a little longer. You will need to earn 35 points by completing Blind Wells, Escalation Protocols or Forges. How you want to approach this step is really up to you as they are moderately flexible in terms of time spent. Points are awarded as follows; Forges give 4 points, Blind Well Tier 4 completion gives 7 points and Escalation Protocol gives 1 point per wave and 3 points per boss killed.

Finally, there is “Defend the Light”. “Defend the Light” forces players to defeat multiple opponents without reloading. If you’re moderately aware of the demands of this specific task, you can equip large magazine weapons like Hammerhead / Thunderlord in the heavy slot and a few AR / Pulse rifles in your primary / secondary for good measure. This will most likely come to all players naturally while continuing the previous two steps.

After completing these three steps, in any order, you will then move on to “Fireteam Leader”.

Improve Rose further with ‘Fireteam Leader’

Similar to the “ Face the Hordes ” stage, you will need to complete more activities, like Blind Well, Escalation Protocol, and Forges again, but with the added bonus of several other activities, such as the Menagerie, that also count.

The percentage you receive is based on the number of players on your fire team using Rose or Lumina, with significantly higher percentages for full fire teams. The most efficient method to complete this currently known stage is to complete the Menagerie in a team of six with all players using Rose / Lumina, this will earn you 35% of your total goal per race.

Watch your Rose ‘Bloom’ killing Xol

“ Bloom ” is the last step in achieving Lumina and not only requires you to complete the “ Will of the Thousands ” strike, but you will also have to complete the strike with Rose equipped, destroying 11 floating crystals found throughout strike and kill Xol along with Rose in one go.

As Xol falls, your Rose will blossom into a magnificent Lumina. (Don’t worry, you can always remove Rose from your collection)
