When Wes tried the new Xbox app for PC last month, he found a much better user interface, but an unfortunate inability to modify games downloaded from the Microsoft Store. Although Microsoft said modding would be supported on an E3 Inside Xbox stream, there didn’t seem to be a way to change (or almost even access) game files in the Xbox Games Directory.
Now, since the last Windows update, the user Pycorax on Reddit has found a new folder called ModdableWindowsApps in the Programs folder. The Microsoft Dev Center confirms the outer worlds mods this with a listing for the new directory. Developers can also specify a custom folder for their app, according to another Dev Center page.
PC Gamer after E3
In a statement to PC Gamer after E3, Microsoft said that “games available with Xbox Game Pass for PC will have mod support as long as the developer has them enabled for their game,” but did not provide any further details on how this modding would actually work. It looks like we are now seeing the first steps in this direction.
It’s good to see that Microsoft is on its way to support mods for PC games in the Microsoft Store, which makes the overhaul of the new Xbox app even better.
