Stardew Valley Willy creator Eric Barone is working on a couple of new things, but he’s still working on the old, too. Barone confirmed on Twitter today that the Stardew Valley 1.5 content update that he announced in February is still in development and more interestingly, he also joked a bit about what he’s going to include.
If he’s not sure what he’s talking about, compare the tweet image to the one below, courtesy of Waifu Simulator 27 on YouTube. See the green door in the newer photo? Barone did not give clues as to what is behind it, but there is much speculation in the answers.
The obvious assumption is that it is the back room of Willy’s store, perhaps a bedroom / storage room combination. But some fans have theorized that it is actually his secret marijuana farm, or a passage to the fish underworld, or a gateway to a small Animal Crossing-style island. Personally, I think it’s a magical portal to Sigil, the City of Gates, heralding the announcement of a Stardew Valley and Planescape crossover, which will be the largest multi-franchise crossover event in video game history!
Okay, no, it’s definitely not that. But admit it, it’s not the worst idea you’ve ever heard.
There’s no word yet on when the Stardew Valley 1.5 update and Willy’s new door will be released to the public, but the “nose to grindstone” comment makes me think it’s still a long way off. I emailed Barone to ask him what’s cooking and will update if he tells me.
