1)       Core group 1

This group is the one if you receive the guarantee credit element of pension credit. In order to qualify for a warm home discount under this group:

  • You or your spouse are receiving a guarantee credit element of pension credit,
  • The bill needs to be in your name or your spouse’s name,
  • The energy provider you are with provides a warm home discount.

2)       Core group 2

This group is the one if you are from the low-income group and are receiving some benefits. In order to qualify for a warm home discount under this group, you need to have the following

  • You are on a low income, receive benefits, and are at risk of fuel poverty,
  • The energy provider you are with provides a warm home discount.

So what benefits make you eligible for a warm home discount? Even though receiving a warm home discount depends upon your energy provider’s scheme. But you qualify for a warm home discount if you are receiving one of the following benefits.

  • Income support
  • Universal credit
  • Working tax credit
  • Child tax credit
  • Housing benefit
  • Income-based job hunter’s allowance
  • Mortgage interest support
  • Income-related employment & allowance for support

How Can You Apply For A Warm Home Discount?

Depending on how you qualify for the warm house discount scheme, you can apply according to it.

1) Core group 1

If you fall under this group, then the discount will be automatically applied to the bills without you having to do anything. If there is any action you need to take or confirm any kind of information, then you should expect to get a letter from DWP in October, November, or December of 2022.

2) Core group 2

If you fall under this core group, then you will have to apply for a discount with your energy provider. And this is given on a first-come, first-serve basis. Your electricity provider will determine who should get the discount, and if you qualify for it.
