Stardew Valley’s big update 1.3 is out today, at least in beta form. The most exciting part is definitely the new multiplayer system, but on top of that, there’s also a ton of new single-player content, and we’ve been researching to find all the new stuff.
Perhaps the best we’ve come up with so far is a new “Community Update” option that will be available from Robin the Carpenter after he has fully updated his home. For the low price of 500,000 gold, you can build a house for Pam, the bus driver who lives in a trailer with her daughter Penny.
We haven’t had a chance to complete the purchase yet, so we’re not sure what Pam’s new home will look like, or if more community improvements will be offered after that. Either way, it’s a great story that will allow me to invest some of my wealth in wine in the community.
There are plenty of other cool things in the new patch, like the option to build additional shipping containers, as well as a new garden pot that will allow you to grow crops year-round indoors (outside of the greenhouse). Here are some other more important things we have found so far:
- New friendship events with Linus, Willie and Krobus.
- New “Night Market” event, where a handful of merchant ships arrive at the stardew valley house upgrade docks.
- Horses can wear hats.
- An “Auto-Grabber” that automatically harvests cows, sheep and goats.
- You can change your profession through a “statue of uncertainty” in the sewers.
- Three new fish.
There are lots of other little additions (check out this Reddit thread that gets updated as people find new stuff). It’s worth noting that the beta is still quite buggy and prone to crashes, so be careful and back up your save files if you want to get started right away.
